Electra Astrology FAQ ✨🪐
Curious about astrology, birth charts, or what an astrology reading can actually tell you? Here are answers to some of the questions I’m asked most often.
What is a birth chart?
A birth chart is a map of the sky at the exact moment and location you were born. It shows the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets, and other astrological points, along with the relationships between them. But your birth chart is much more than a collection of zodiac signs. I think of it as a map of patterns and possibilities, one that can help us explore how you experience relationships, emotions, purpose, creativity, family, work, change, and the many different chapters of your life. No single placement defines you. The real insight comes from understanding how the different pieces of your chart work together.
What can an astrology reading tell me?
An astrology reading can help you understand the patterns, strengths, challenges, and possibilities within your birth chart, and how they may be showing up in your life right now. We can explore relationships, career and purpose, family dynamics, emotional patterns, major life transitions, recurring themes, and astrological timing. Sometimes the most valuable part of a reading is simply putting language around something you’ve felt for a long time but haven’t been able to fully see or understand. Astrology doesn’t tell you who you have to be. It gives you another way to see who you are and what may be unfolding.
Is a birth chart the same thing as a horoscope?
Not exactly. A general horoscope is usually based on one part of your astrology (often your Sun sign or rising sign) and describes broader astrological themes that may apply to many people. A birth chart is specific to you. It uses your birth date, time, and location to create a much more detailed picture of the astrology present when you were born. That’s why two people with the same Sun sign can be remarkably different. You are never just your zodiac sign.
Do I need my exact birth time for an astrology reading?
An accurate birth time is extremely helpful because it determines your rising sign, houses, and other important details within the birth chart. If you don't know your birth time, however, that doesn't necessarily mean astrology can't be useful. There may still be quite a lot we can explore using your birth date and location. The type and depth of interpretation possible will depend on the information available.
Can astrology predict the future?
Astrology can show us timing, cycles, and periods when particular themes or possibilities may become more active—but I don’t believe your future is predetermined. I think of your chart as a landscape of possibilities. Astrology can help illuminate that landscape: where opportunities may arise, where challenges may require your attention, and what larger cycles you’re moving through. For me, the purpose isn't to tell you exactly what will happen. It's to help you understand what may be unfolding so you have greater awareness and choice in how you meet it.
Can astrology help me understand my relationships?
Yes. Relationships are one of the richest areas we can explore through astrology. Your birth chart can offer insight into your emotional needs, patterns of connection, communication style, attraction, boundaries, conflict, intimacy, and what you may unconsciously seek or avoid in relationships. When appropriate, we can also look at the astrology between two people. But the goal isn't to label a relationship as “compatible” or “incompatible.” It’s to understand the dynamics between you more clearly—including where connection comes naturally and where you may need greater awareness.
Why do I keep repeating the same patterns?
This is one of my favorite questions to explore through astrology. Our patterns aren't always obvious while we're living them. We may repeatedly find ourselves in similar relationships, struggle with the same boundaries, encounter familiar fears, or reach the same crossroads without understanding why. A birth chart can give us another lens for recognizing those recurring themes. Once you can see a pattern more clearly, you have more choice in how you respond to it. That's one of the reasons I believe astrology can be such a powerful tool for self-awareness: you can't shift what you can't see.
Can astrology help with career and life purpose?
Astrology can offer meaningful insight into the kinds of experiences that energize you, the strengths you naturally draw upon, the environments in which you tend to thrive, and the deeper themes that may give your work a sense of meaning. But I don't believe your chart contains one predetermined career you're “supposed” to have. Instead, we can use astrology to explore how you're wired to contribute, create, lead, communicate, build, serve, or express yourself—and consider how those themes might take shape in the life you're living now.
Can astrology help me make better decisions?
Astrology shouldn't make decisions for you. What it can do is help you understand what may be influencing your choices. Your chart can reveal patterns around self-trust, fear, boundaries, responsibility, relationships, and how you instinctively respond under pressure. That awareness can make it easier to separate what you genuinely want from what fear, conditioning, or expectation may be telling you to do. The goal isn't for astrology to tell you what to choose. It's to help you understand yourself well enough that the choice becomes clearer.
Can astrology support personal growth and emotional wellbeing?
Astrology can provide a framework for understanding emotional patterns—what you need to feel supported, how you respond when those needs aren't met, and what you may unconsciously carry into your relationships. It can also give us a language for exploring family dynamics, early experiences, boundaries, vulnerability, and recurring emotional responses. I don't see astrology as a replacement for therapy or mental health care. I see it as a tool for self-awareness: another way to understand yourself, recognize patterns, and become more conscious of how you want to respond to your life.
How often should I have an astrology reading?
There's no single right schedule. Some people have one reading during a major transition or when they want perspective on a particular question. Others return periodically as new chapters unfold, while some prefer ongoing astrology that helps them understand the cycles they're moving through month by month. Astrology is most useful when it supports your own awareness, not when you feel you need to consult it before every decision.
Do I need to believe in astrology for a reading to be useful?
No. Curiosity is enough. You don't need to understand astrology, memorize your placements, or accept everything you hear without question. In fact, I encourage you to notice what resonates, ask questions, and consider the astrology alongside your own lived experience. Your chart is a tool for exploration, not an authority over you.
